    Description

    This
    BEAUTIFUL CORN MAIDEN
fetish was carved by Native American
    RON LAAHTY
from serpentine. Ron is considered a "Master" fetish carver by collectors for having received
    multiple awards
over the many years he has created such detailed pieces. He shows his maiden with her hair in WHORLS. This is often referred to as a HOPI maiden because Hopi women traditionally had their hair up in this fasion.
Corn Maidens emerged with the Zuni according to their legion and importantly brought plentiful harvests.
The ZUNI tribe fetish carvers are the most collectible and world renowned among Native Americans.
The artist has inlaid turquoise for the eyes and mouth. Ron etched his name and Zuni, NM on the bottom.
I purchased this carving from Ron at the Indian Market in Santa Fe around 2010
