Retro Buffalo Zuni Fetish Carved Stone Green & Pink Unikite Jasper 4.5 x 3.25.
Weighing just over a pound, this piece is larger than a pocket fetish or other smaller pieces and essentially covers the entire palm + half the fingers of a female hand. Very nice piece.
The buffalo is revered, sacred even, in many Native American cultures and represents "abundance" or "prosperity" as the buffalo provided sustanence, shelter, clothing, and other hide, horn, and bone materials from which to make daily necessities including carrying bags, needles, spoons, adornments and many other things.
Unakite, sometimes known as unakite jasper, is a form of granite that includes pieces of pink orthoclase feldspar, green epidote and sometimes, quartz crystals. It has a distinctive, mottled green and pink appearance that polishes well. It was first discovered in the Unaka Mountain range, a part of the Appalachian Mountains on the borders of Tennesee and North Carolina in the U.S. It was caught up in glacial drifts during the Ice Age and has been found all over North America. It is also found in Sount Africa, Brazil, and China although not in the quantities present in the Unakas Mountains.
